Now on his third cup of coffee and second burger with all the trimmings, he listened to the audio feed with increasing interest. As the two agents had gone their separate ways, the quality of the audio had improved; the echo effect, produced by two microphones recording the same source, had disappeared. However, now he was faced with the dilemma of which source to monitor.

He started ping-ponging between both.

Initially the older woman’s brief conversation with the Dean, then her phone call to California provided more interesting information; if things did not work out as he wanted here, then starting the killings again in California was his Plan B. When the only noises coming from the feed were just the soft clack- clacking of keyboard keys, he opted to switch to the audio featuring the younger Agent. He tuned in just in time to hear the start of the conversation with the nurse.

A plan began to form in his mind.

A plan to accelerate matters considerably.
